Marshall University Seeks to Streamline Physician Revenue Processes with McKesson Revenue Management Solutions

Apr4

University Physicians & Surgeons, Inc., the faculty practice of Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, has chosen McKesson to manage its medical billing and practice management processes, citing McKesson’s market longevity and reputation for excellence as deciding factors in its choice. McKesson’s Revenue Management Solutions (RMS) group will provide services including patient billing, accounts receivable management and reporting to assist the Huntington, W.Va., group in its efforts to achieve measurable improvements in key financial areas (see also McKesson Corporation).
James J. Schneider, executive director of University Physicians & Surgeons, Inc., said successful financial performance by the medical practice group is essential to sustaining the medical school’s critical education, research and clinical service missions.
"With continuing reductions in physician reimbursement and the growing complexity of insurance company and patient billing processes, we require experienced support and robust practice management systems in order to improve revenue cycle financial performance," he said. "McKesson has demonstrated that it has the knowledge, experience and technology solutions, as well as skilled professionals with a sustained presence in the industry, to deliver improved results for us in this rapidly changing environment."
The 200+ physician practice selected McKesson for its ability to provide robust data reporting and analysis, which will help identify system inefficiencies and bottlenecks, Schneider said. He also expects McKesson’s industry expertise will help the practice improve key performance indicators such as net collection percentages and days in accounts receivable.
McKesson is the nation’s leading provider of medical billing and accounts receivable management services for physicians, with more than 30 years’ experience and more than 1,000 customers. Its RMS group includes 4,000 employees dedicated to helping physicians grow revenues, control costs and reduce regulatory risk.
"We are honored that Marshall faculty physicians selected us and proud that physician colleagues at other respected institutions regularly provide such solid recommendations about our services," said Pat Leonard, senior vice president and general manager for McKesson’s RMS group. "The people, processes and technology we put to work for our customers help ensure that we exceed performance expectations in the important academic physician market."
Revenue management solutions are part of McKesson’s comprehensive portfolio of physician solutions designed to reduce time spent on administrative tasks and streamline practice operations.
