35% doctors found absent in hospitals across Sindh: FAFEEN
According to a survey report of Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN), a local NGO, 90 percent patients are facing problem of overcharging, 35 percent doctors found absent from their duties, pharmacies are not working properly in 20% of sub-district hospitals and 20% patients face misbehaviour of doctors and paramedical staff in hospitals across Sindh.
In a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Tuesday Hina Tabassum Program Manager South Asia Forum for Human Rights said while issuing the report that 847 seats for male doctors and 397 for female doctors are lying vacant despite the statement of Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah, issued a few months ago in which he announced to recruit doctors in the hospitals of Sindh. According to report 100 % people expressed satisfaction in regard with family planning facilities during survey in hospitals and Hina said that the government is focusing only on family planning. Report tells that 12 % sub district hospitals are housed in incomplete buildings, seven percent hospitals are facing hygienic and sanitation problems, 13 % hospitals are deprived of drinking water, 12 % have no waiting area, wheel chairs and medical equipments, while three percent in sub district and six percent of district hospitals are working without oxygen tent.
She said while criticizing parliamentarians that parliamentarians visit these hospitals only for photo session. Hina said that they are going to start a supervisory program for elected persons, which monitor that if parliamentarians are resolving the issues of their respective constituencies or not.
