BRIEF: Longwood police investigate death after hospital fight [The Orlando Sentinel, Fla.]

Mar31

Apr. 1Longwood Police are investigating the death of a South Seminole Hospital patient at the hands of another patient.
William Toshie, 74, of Fern Park, was a patient in the psychiatric ward of the hospital when he was involved in a fight with another patient this past week. Toshie died Sunday.
No charges have been filed and no arrests have been made in the case.
"We’re still conducting an active investigation and we’re hoping to know more today," said Kim Zeh, a police spokeswoman.
Orlando Health, which operates the hospital, will not provide any information about the incident during the current investigation.
"Our No. 1 priority is the safety and security of our patients, team members and the community," Orlando Health spokesman Geo Morales said in a prepared statement.
The Agency for Health Care Administration, which licenses health-care facilities, also will wait until the investigation is complete before it makes any evaluations about the hospital, said AHCA spokeswoman Shelisha Durden.
The other patient who was involved in the fight with Toshie is still at the hospital. The patient has not been identified.
